DAY 1: NAIROBI-NAROMORU
Depart from Nairobi city for Naromoru town, arrive in time for lunch at your budget hotel. After lunch relax and prepare your trekking gear as you rest and get ready for the exciting trek ahead of you.Dinner and overnight at a budget hotel.
DAY 2:NAROMORU-MET STATION
Start off your day with a hot breakfast then depart Naromoru for Naro Moru gate at Mt.Kenya National Park. Sightings of bushbuck and baboons can be seen at the Naromoru gate, sign in and start along a vehicle track, lunch enroute before continuing to the first camp Met Station. This camp is close to a forest where buffalos come out at night to graze. Dinner and Overnight
at Met station camp at an altitude of 3050m.
DAY 3:MET STATION -MACKINDERS HUT
Rise up in the morning for breakfast then start the day's trek. The path ahead will be a vehicle track which further proceeds into a footpath through hygenia forest and towards open heathland. From the open heathland, you can get great views over the treetops and plains.The heath and moorland is continous and sightings of giant lobelia deckenii and giant cabbage grounsel can be spotted as one passess the vertical blog to the picnic rocks. Lunch enroute,therafter continue on the moorland before getting to the teleki valley with a wind up between giant tree groundsel and Ostrich Plume Lobelia thereafter approach the next camp Mackinders Hut at an altitude of 4200m.Dinner and Overnight at Mackinders camp.
DAY 4:MACKINDERS HUT-AUSTRIAN HUT-SUMMIT POINT-MT.MERU BANDAS
Early rise hours just after midnight and start ascent to Point Lenana. Start off on a flat section and then to frozen scree using a torchlight climb and reach Austrian Hut at an altitude of 4790m. Brief rest at Austrian Hut, this brief stop helps to buy time so as to reach point Lenana just in time before sunrise. After brief stop follow a ridge up to the summit. The course of the ridge changes starts off as broad and gets narrower. There will be sections that will require both hands and feet,such sections will take our time reducing our pace. Steel cables on the upper two thirds are not really needed but they help settle all fears by them being present in event there is use for them. Sunrise can be expected at around 6am,by this time we will have reached the summit point. Take picture at the summit at an altitude of 4985m,highest point in Kenya. In good weather conditions get sightings of the mighty Mt.Kilimanjaro,thereafter descend to Mintos Hut for breakfast and proceed to Mt.Meru Kenya campsite for dinner and overnight.
DAY 5:MT.MERU BANDAS-CHOGORIA-NAIROBI
Breakfast then descend a further 15kilometres to where the 4 x 4 vehicle to drive you to Chogoria town. Get transportation to Nairobi from Chogoria. Arrival in Nairobi is estimated to be around late afternoon.
